What is the Fix for 611361 -- HostName length.

Hi all,

I am trying to install NW on my machine, I am getting the following message;

<b> ERROR 2007-04-15 11:10:11

The name of this host is inblr-shridhar which is more than 13 characters long. This is not supported for SAP server installations (see SAP Note 611361).</b>

as i am in a company domain, i fear, if it will have any effect on my machine/network connectivity.

Can anyone help me on this, What is the fix for this.

I havnt tried to change it to a shorter name. coz i am in a Company network, i dont know what impact will it have, if i try to change it.

Is there an alternative.

Hello Shridhar,

The only fix is to change hostname to meet the 13 character restriction. There are many fields in the abap system that are directly tied to hostname 13 character limit. For example, the profile name length is also affected (<sid>_DVEBMGS##_<hostname>). The maximum field length for profile entries is 27 characters which is reached with the 13 character hostname. Please adjust the hostname to 13 characters or less to meet the SAP restriction.
