What is business objects

When I browse the BusinessObject pages on SDN and the BusinessObjects forums, i see a lot of infomation about tools and stuf that I know - and still I am not familiar with the term "BusinessObjects"

I know SAP R/3 Business Objects and the Business Object Builder (transaction SWO1), but I can see that these Business Objects has nothing to do with BusinessObjects?

Can anyone explain in a nutshell what is BusinessObjects?

Thanks

Thomas

Hi

BusinessObjects was an independent Business Intelligence software vendor. Two years ago there was a merger with SAP and now the BI portfolio of BusinessObjects (including reporting, ETL, planning, strategy management and consolidation tools) is available under the name SAP BusinessObjects.

Stratos

You tell me who made it and sold it to SAP, but I don't care about that

I simply want to know what it is.

And please a little more details than just ..reporting, ETL, planning, strategy management and consolidation..

I.e. What makes it better/different than SAP BI

Best Regards

Hi Stratos

I think you have already earned 10 points, but I have a final question.

If one wants to use BusinessObjects linked to ECC without SAP BI or an other data warehouse, then what one gets is a reporting or query tool - maybe its the Rolls-Royce or Ferrari of reporting/query tools (I don't know), but still - its a reporting/query tool?

Best regards

Hi

in this case the Crystal Reports Designer (reporting tool) must be used. You build your reports using the Crystal Reports Designer and you can publish them for your end users in a BO system (BO Enterprise or BO Edge)

Crystal Reports is a pretty powerful reporting tool.
