Webi long runtime with huge volume

Hi Gurus,

I know there is a lot of different posts on Webi performance. But I just want to get a feeling of where to start...

Here is the context:

- We have a Bex query sending to Webi around 267 000 lines

- the main purpose of the webi document is to create a beautiful report with the data. So the webi document contains several sections, some variables for "formatting" the columns and that kind of things. There is no contextual calculations.

The Bex query responds in an honest duration (5 min), and when we send the result without any formatting into a blank Webi document, it takes roughly 8 min end to end. So, my conclusion is that the DSLBridge service works correctly....

The issue is when we try to implement formatting rules. At that moment, it can take up to 2hours....I understand that there is a complexity for the formatting rules, but 2 hrs looks a bit too much ๐Ÿ˜‰

We are running BI 4.1 SP7 on AIX...

Any idea ?

Hi Pierre,

Have you gone through ?

Our experience

We have faced a similar issue where a report that gets data from SQL Server runs for over 10 mins. In our case, most time was spent on the database. We tuned our query to bring the query run time to under 30 seconds but our report still takes around 1 minute and 20 seconds to load. The report has few hundred pages with nested sections and many hidden cells and conditional formatting. After much deliberation, we have come to a conclusion to redesign the report to make it simpler which would help in the long run, in terms of maintainable, supportable and extensible.

Hello Pierre,

For the type of report O/P you need I would recommend you to go with Crystal Reports every reporting tool has there own pros and cons.

With the current situation I believe Crystal Report is the best reporting solution for you. Also this might interest you to know that if in future data grows further this problem will rise again.

Crystal Report is again a BO tool and best suited for complex formatting reports.

Regards

Niraj

one more thing you can try to save the report in structure mode.once report refreshed then trun to data mode.
