WebDynpro or PDK

Hi,

if one has to start a new development for the portal what technology should one use: PDK or WebDynpro?

Hi Peter,

Its better to start with PDK. It provides the environment necessary to create and execute Portal components and services. It simplifies the portal development and delivers documentation , javadocs and example codes. U need the following skills for using PDK:

*Java and servlet programming

*Basic operating system (navigation and file copy)

*JSP (Java Server Pages)

But the choice whether to use this or webdynpro depends on the requirement.

Hi Peter,

For a beginner PDK is good coz it provides lots of assitance for the developer. And which tecnology to choose depend upon the requirement.

For learning purpose PDK is very good and have code samples and explantions.PDK comes as a seperate installation.

if you have to decide which technology you want as a standard for portal development, providing you have all the skilled people you want, which is your choice then?

Is WebDynpro going to replace PDK in the future?

Hi Peter,

You have asked a very interesting question. For me WebDynpro is good if u consider the functional aspects. But for the look and feel PDK has more options.

In Webdynpro java coding is used. But in PDK you can go for HTML, script and java. I dont have that experiance to say whether WebDynpro replaces PDK or vice versa. I use both of these technologies according to requirements.

Let the SDN Gurus tell us which one is the future.
