VB6 and CR XI R2

I have a VB6 application that includes the Crystl32.ocx from version 8.5. I have other applications (VB.NET) that use CR XI R2. I cannot upgrade the application from VB6 to VB.NET. I am trying to get all of my applications on CR XI R2. Can someone tell me what component I would need to include in my VB6 project to replace the Crystl32.ocx?

Thank you,

Jack

Hi Jack,

If you intend on staying with XI for a while and not upgrading to 2008 then use the Report Design Component (RDC). You'll find the documentation in the Developer Help file.

The RDC is not supported in 2008 which is why I mentioned it.

Good luck,

Brian

Thanks for the response. I had seen other posts mention that CR 2008 does not support the RDC. Can you tell me where I can find the Developer Help file? I have not been able to find it anywhere either on my computer or online.

I downloaded the file, but I can't view it. When I open the file, I get the table of contents on the left, but the right pane just says "This program cannot display the webpage."

Is the RDC the only option? I only need view capability, and the RDC seems like overkill. It also would require a substantial rewrite of the application since the previous viewer control was added to several forms and was used to view the reports relative to the form.

Thank you,

Jack

Hi Jack,

Go to Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11\Developer Files\Help\En. You'll find the help file there.

To properly open the downloaded file, you should get a Windows security prompt with the option on bottom left to Always ask before opening this file. Remove the check and it will open properly.

If you do not get the prompt, right-click on the file and open with Internet Explorer. The prompt should come up now.

Good luck,

I was able to finally open the help file, and it says I should add the Crystal Report Designer Run Time Component (craxdrt.dll). I did a search of my entire hard drive, but the file was not found.

It also says that there is a Crystal Report Viewer for ActiveX (crviewer.dll). I have found that file, but it is listed as Crystal ActiveX Report Viewer Library 10.5. Is this the one I should be using for CR XI R2?

Thank you,

Jack

Hi Jack,

My CRVIEWER.DLL is version 11.0.0.1282.

My CRAXDRT.DLL is in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\bin and is version 11.0.0.1282.

Good luck,

Brian
