Using percentages in crosstabs with hierarchies

Hi,

My requirement is to show margin percentages in a crosstab using hierarchies. In my HANA (Analytic) view I have created a simple formula that calculates the margin percentage. In Design studio however, the percentage values are simply being summarized into a number that does not represent the margin percentages at all..

I know it's not possible to use calculated key figures in Design Studio, so how can I use percentages at all in Design Studio in crosstabs?

Regards,

Sjoerd

Hi Sjoerd,

A screenshot will help.

Are you missing the UOM (% symbol) or is data being shown as 0.2 instead of 20% or is it something else?

Thanks.

Hi Murali.

Image with the problem below. Instead of calculating the percentage at runtime, it is just summarizing the values in the hierarchy..

Hi Sjoerd,

I am unaware of any functions in Analytic View calculated columns to calculate

  • Percentage Share of Result (%CT)
  • Percentage Share of Overall Result (%GT)
  • Percentage Share of Query Result (%RT)

like we have in SAP BW Query Designer.

If anyone know, please share.

Are you calculating the margin percentage as a share OR a fixed percentage of some other column?

Does your report show percentage rolled properly up the levels? Can you check it out in Excel MDX if it works properly?  If Excel works fine, then it is a DS issue otherwise it is a SAP HANA issue.

Thanks,

Murali

Thanks Murali,

Unfortunately SAP has just confirmed that it is not possible as of yet to use calculations in HANA (based on another column) in combination with hierarchies.

In my opinion this is a huge limitation to the whole HANA/Design studio integration..

With BW it works like a charm by the way, so it seems to be a HANA problem indeed...

Thanks,

Sjoerd

Hi Sjoerd,

Ever found the solution for this issue? I'm running into the same ...

Thanks for responding!

Hi Gerben,

Unfortunately, I have not found a solution for this issue, in the end we had to switch to flat reporting and build in a drill up/down button to work around this limitation...

Sjoerd,

I have created a thread on ideas.sap.com for this: https://ideas.sap.com/D22079 as SAP still has no solution for this.

Hi Liselot and hi Sjoerd,

We have exactly the same issue. This keeps us from using Design Studio at all and I know we're not the only ones, I've heard more folks complain about this. I'll make sure to vote too.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi,

first of all it is possible to use calculated key figures in Design Studio.

so is the source a HANA view or a BEx query - just asking because you mentioned HANA and you mentioned "calculated Key figure".

for your calculation did you also configure the subtotals to leverage the calculation ?

Hi Ingo,

Thanks for replying.

I am using HANA(Rev56) as a source. By calculated key figure, I meant calculating a value in Design studio, not a BEx Calculated KF.

What did you mean by your last remark about subtotals?

Thanks,

Sjoerd

Hi,

with the subtotal comment I was more referring to a BEx query where you can calculated the subtotal in a different way.

so why not putting the calculation already into the HANA model ?

Hi Ingo,

I have a calculation in the HANA model, but as you can see, the results on the view are simply being summarized when used in Design Studio, and not calculated at runtime ofcourse when reporting hierarchy nodes..

Ingo,

Do you understand my question/have any idea? This is a blocking issue as of yet..
