Using different OS (Unix) in same SAP Landscape

Hi,

Bcause of some business reason, we need to use AIX for Developement system and Sun Solaris for QA and Prod environment. I know technically it is possible, except some problems related to SAP kernel and SAP notes for OS level fix.

Does anybody has this type of scenario? What are the challenges we should consider in this?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Krishna

Hi,

I suggest you to use same OS/DB on one landscape, If you test a fix on Solaris DEV you should be sure that you can install in PRD if is OK. In your scenario you are not able to test fix for PRD before in DEV.

I think that SAP dones't support your scenario in a "normal life" but only during in a OS/DB migration.

Solaris works fine as AIX, so you can migrate all system your landscape.

Hi Ganimede,

We have already highlighted this point to the management and working on making exceptions in our change management process to make OS related changes as an exceptions.

As I mentioned before, this is technically possible.

But you said " it will not be supported by SAP". Do you have any oss note or document to support this statement? To make statement to management, I need supporting document.

I am also opening OSS message to see .. what SAP has to say.

Thanks for your reply.

Regards,

Krishna

Ganimede is wrong. SAP support multi-OS SAP landscape.

Personally, I would not recommend this approach. Your testing will never be perfect because your environment is not 100% identical
