User rights for Microsoft Power Query access to BO universes

Dear all,

I'm trying to connect to a BO Universe using Microsoft Power Query (Excel Add-in), the authentication window is displaying the a message telling that I'm not authorized to connect to the universe ("Access Forbidden").

I'm using the url http://<server>:6405/biprws to connect to BO universes folder.

Do you know what kind of user rights need to be enabled into the CMC to allow user access to BO universes via Power Query?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards

I think this is a similar issue to the visibility of universe folders and universes in Live Office covered by SAP note 1620302.

For my situation, I granted the user rights to those universe folders above those folders which have rights set for users for webi access to the universes.  You'll also need to grant user rights for the universe connections too (view on demand should do) if they are not already established such as for webi access.

The other thing of note, is that only .unx universes are displayed in MS Power Query as it utilises the Restful Web Services which currently does not support .unv universes.

Hello Barry,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I finally solved my problem by adding the users to the BO group "Universe Designers Users".

Best Regards,

Benjamin.

Hi,

Are you able to retrieve the universe in IDT or universe designer?can you see the universe folder in Power query?

What is the the access on "Restful web service" under applications in BO CMC?

Hi Amit,

Yes we can retrieve the universe in the IDT but the universe folder is not available in Power Query.

Concerning the Restful web service, the profile used is Full Control.

Hello Niraj,

Thanks for your quick response.

I already tried to figure it out using this post. But this post is not telling anything concerning my issue on user rights to enable for users.

In fact only user belonging to the Administrators group can display the universe structure into Power Query. The other ones are getting the message : "Access to the resource is forbidden".

I created a specific user group for my users and assigned the relevant rights to access to the universe using the BI Launch pad.

Everything is working fine on BusinessObjects platform but when they try to access to the universe via Power Query they are getting the message you can see above.

Are there some rights to enable on Applications, Servers, or others items?

I already tried to allow access to the WACS server, REST Web Service and WebService applications but nothing is working.

Are there any needs to restart the servers once the user rights applied?

Regards,

Benjamin
