Use of TREX with IXOS content server

Hello all

We have a customer that is requesting to use TREX but with IXOS content server. Problem is that this is a PLM DMS scenario where normally only SAP Content server can be indexed by TREX. But if we access DMS via KM, (KM-DMS connector) then question is do we have a Repository Manager or whatever equivalent available that makes the use of IXOS Content server possible for TREX ?

thanks for your help !

Hi Sooriya,

actually, DMS indexing and searching should work with IXOS as content server as well, for all I know. But that you should clarify with a mySAp PLM DMS expert.

Using the IXOS repository manager for KM will not help you in your DMS scenario, as KM would then access IXOS directly, thus bypassing all metadata, etc. stored in the DMS.

Hello Karsten

thanks ! this confirms my doubts and the necessity that TREX index directly the DMS IXOS content server.

I'll check with the PLM DMS Product Management; until now no documentation exists on their side for TREX usage !

Hi Sooriya,

it's not so much "IXOS direct".

It is "through DMS", if you want to use DMS search.

If search through KM is acceptable, you should rather use the DMS repository manager than the one for IXOS.

Repository managers always access where the document object model is defined, which is in your case the DMS.

You can also index DMS documents at KPro layer within SAP, to TREX. Obviously these indexes won't be exposed to KM. In either case, KPro, or KM initiated indexing (over DMS RM), the indexing can support any content server supporting HTTP 4.5 or higher, with applies to IXOS as well.

Hi,

with NW04 SPS15 of KM you can also search for documents in KM, which are not accessible via a KM repository manager, but which are in a Trex index.

You have only to create an index in KM with the additional property hiddenIndexOnServer = "name of your index in Trex" and you can search for your documents in KM.

...which would still require indexing via e.g. DMS.

A dirext IXOS to TREX connection to create the index is not supported.

Hi Sooriya,

Currently, the integration of a third-party WCMS-tool (IXOS-Obtree, now Opentext Corp.) has been implemented to enhance the SAP Knowledge Management functionality.

Hello Patricia

thanks for your reply.

But our problem is that the IXOS content server is used for PLM DMS (R/3 side);TREX server being defined in R/3 for PLM DMS indexing documents in the IXOS content server (if that works !).

The question we now have is that we can only make use of a TREX only from KM because of the IXOS content server; hoping that KM has the capability that its TREX can index documents in IXOS content server.

I have read lots of information on IXOS website talking about "Certified product" with netweaver....but nothing for above ....

Already if IXOS products are certified with netweaver, they should be accessible from TREX even in the PLM DMS scenario !!! (which is not the case today...)

Any hint on this point?
