Hi,
I would like to update my SAP HANA Express SPS04 (2.00.040.0) to revision 2.00.045.0, but there is no newer revision available. Only the initial release.
How can i update the revision without using the recommended method (Updating SAP HANA, express edition)?
Even better, if an unannounced update is underway?
Regards,
Henrik
Absolutely. The SAP HANA, express edition was eagerly anticipated and warmly welcomed by the SAP Community. It is a fantastic learning resource.
As mentioned, I will make a post when there is some news to share. Hopefully soon.
Thanks for sharing your views.

For those interested, SAP HANA, express edition 2.0 revision 45 is now available:
Denys, Thanks!
Great news and 045 Express is earlier available than expected!
You might know there is an update problem in 040 Express. See https://answers.sap.com/questions/12857573/hxecheckupdatelinuxbin----jar2exe-has-expired.html
There are workarounds. E.g. the one I had mentioned. Seems to be the official workaround nowdays as well:
https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/hxe-ua-updating-binary.html
"If you do not have the update utility, use the Download Manager, select Binary Installer and download the latest files for hxe.tgz
, and hxexsa.tgz
"
Do you think we will ever get a working upgrader for 040?
Interesting. That's right. 40GB should be enough for the express edition. However, the note references the platform edition, so it may not be relevant to the express edition. There aren't that many notes or articles about express as it comes with community support (note 2373555 - SAP HANA Express Support Strategy).

DAT803 is a roadmap session which are usually not recorded but I did find a copy of the DAT102 session What’s New in SAP HANA, express edition also covers a future outlook (with the omnipresent Disclaimer). From the release notes, we can observe that there was an express edition for most of the SPS 02 and SPS 03 revisions but not for SPS 04 (released 4 months after the platform):
On the SAP road map site, there is no roadmap for the express edition but there is a recent one for SAP HANA mentioning the express edition (albeit briefly):
At 2019 TechEd the focus was clearly cloud-first with SAP HANA cloud, cloud services and the business technology platform.

I know about community support. Only problem is that we are not able to change anything and has to hope for SAP releases new updates. It seems that the layoffs in summer also had an impact on SAP HANA Express which is bad.
You are right about SAP TechEd'19 was all about cloud and moving into the cloud. Nice idea, but not all customers are ready or willing to go all in. At least yet.
Not an ideal situation, if you are using SAP HANA Express for start-ups developing new solutions or professionals just trying out new things.

Henrik
Interesting. Would you remember what the session was and who presented? We can always ask.
The note describes a "very rare case" that might be common on the express edition but should also be easy to avoid by adding some more memory to the system. Is this an option?

Hi Denys,
It was at SAP TechEd Las Vegas 2018: DAT803 – SAP Product Road Map.
The presenter was Annie Niangneihoj, but there was also a guy who was creating the images. It was him who said how the releases would happen.
It might be that the note describe a "very rare case", but we have seen it on two different installations with 40 GB memory.

Henrik
Hi Henrik,
For SPS 04, the initial revision of the express edition was released ± 4 months after the platform. Standard revision 45 for the platform was released mid November, so if we could extrapolate this would mean somewhere in Q1 but there have been no announcements.
I will make a post when there is some news.

Hi Denys,
Hm, is this a change to strategy?
At TechEd is was stated that a new version of SAP HANA Express would follow 2-3 weeks after a new release. This has also been the rule until the delayed release of SPS04 (2.00.040.0). Has SAP HANA Express been left to a slow death?
The reason for upgrading to revision 45 is to fix a problem with OOM (Out-of-Memory). Please see note 2854070 - Webdispatcher crash at HttpModHandler.
Regards,
Henrik
