Universe deleted accidentially, now reports won't work

Hi,

I deleted a universe (had 2 with almost with the same name). Now I've tens of reports that cannot find their universe. When trying to edit the data provider, get an error message: "c3_core_error_en_504". It seems that you cannot change the universe (I have a similar universe with a different name), at least for those reports having multiple queries dependent on that deleted universe. Error messages received when trying to change universe include following: The object 'xyz' at position 123 does not exist in the report. (IES 10006) (WIS 10006). And another one: com.sap.sl.dictionary.impl.LinkImpl cannot be cast to com.sap.sl.dictionary.DBExpression.

Is there a way to find out what is the universe id / cuid that the report (data provider) is referring. And if yes, is there a way to change that to refer to some existing universe's id / cuid? Unfortunately this is a development environment without any BIAR -backups created.

Thanks for your assistance in advance!

I hope this helps someone...

Universe CUID should never change. If CUID changes all reports linked with the universe will become obsolete.

How to prevent Universe CUID to change:

  • Never delete a universe
  • Never move universe away from its production folder (never press the ‘Move’ button with production universe when exporting back to DEV in designer)

What movements are allowed

  • You can overwrite the production universe with DEV Universe or even with backup copy. CUID will not change as it is saved in repository and not in universe file. Universe Access Restrictions are also linked with the CUID.

What if accident happen

  • Original Universe and its original CUID can be retrieved from backup system using the Promotion Management tool
  • Restore process to another server:
    • Restore the repository database
    • Restore the files at D:\BOSERVER\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\FileStore
    • Use the production cluster key from SIA properties (=DB encryption key): [[sx7LU..........CpOrw]] (you do not need to remember the clear text string)
    • Follow instructions at SAP note: http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1275068
