It's my pleasure to answer your question

Some of the advantages

1 BI java Connector together with the UD Connect are used to extract non sap data.

2 It's an alternative approach for Data staging

3 Provides connectivity for any platform or source

4 It support both JAVA and ABAP components

5 To use UD Connect we need J2EE engine istalled in our PC

Disadvantages

Use of conversions including ALPHA not possible with UD Connect.

UD - 'universal' ... more universal ...

from the bw 3.5 doc mentioned

- UD connect can access non-sap datasource and sap data sources

- connect to relational and multidimensional datasource

- direct analyses via UD connect are possible without having physically save data in bw database

- can use bi java connector, available for various driver, protocol and providers
