hi
i have gone through pipeline steps but my doubt is pipeline steps same as tunneling?
can any one provide me what is tunneling?
Hi,
As you must be aware that all Messages that enter XI are converted to an XML format. So, if an IDOC is sent from an R3 system , it is converted into an XML message.
IDOC tunelling is an option in which , you can avoid this conversion of IDOC into an XML format.
Say, you need to do an IDOC to IDOC scenario where XI will jus be used for monitoring.
In these cases, by using IDOC tunelling, we can avoid the conversion of IDOC in to XML and therby imrove perfromance.
Take a look at these blogs,

XI: IDOC to IDOC tunneling - how fast (and easy) can you get?

Hi,
The concept of tunneling comes in to existance when we have to send the idoc
From one SAP application system to another without any mapping or conversion.
Since when an idoc is sent from one SAP application system to another without any mapping or conversion there is no need to generate an idoc-xml in SAP XI .
The benefit of this scenario is that it increases the overall performance of the SAP XI system and leads to faster processing.
How can you configure such a scenario?
Only one step:
go to TCODE - SXMB_ADM
Integration Engine configuration
set the XML_CONVERSION parameter to value 2
Possible Values (from the Help)
a) 0 - Every IDoc is saved as a table; no IDoc-XML conversion
b) 1 - Every IDoc is converted to IDoc-XML
c) 2 - An IDoc is converted to IDoc-XML if requested by the service
Refer the weblog for your help:
