Transitioning Flat File Storage from Shared Disk to Microsoft SharePoint in SAP BW 7.4

Hello SAP BI Community,

In our SAP BW 7.4 landscape, we previously utilized a shared internal disk for storing flat files used as data sources. However, this disk is scheduled for decommissioning.

We are exploring the possibility of replacing this shared disk with Microsoft SharePoint to store and manage these flat files. Before proceeding, I would greatly appreciate your inputs on the following:

  • Is this transition feasible within the SAP BW framework?
  • What are the technical implications or limitations of integrating SharePoint as a source for flat files?
  • Are there specific configurations or tools needed to enable this integration?
  • Could SharePoint affect performance or file accessibility compared to a shared disk?

If anyone has experience with a similar setup or can share detailed guidance, best practices, or relevant documentation, it would be incredibly helpful.

Looking forward to your insights!

Best regards,
Norman

Hi Norman

BW can read data from two places:

  • Local workstation
  • Application server

So in order to read a file from a Sharepoint folder, that must first be mounted to the file system of either your local workstation or the file system of the ABAP application server. Possible example resources for mapping:
