Hi SAP Expert,

I previously submitted these questions two weeks ago but have not yet received a response. I am now reposting them for your review. Kindly take a look at them at your earliest convenience.

I am reaching out to request assistance regarding the selection of an SAP Data Center (DC) for our customers based in Vietnam. To ensure optimal network speed and latency, I would like to inquire if SAP has any resources or tools available for guidance on this matter.

Specifically, I have the following questions:

For customers in Vietnam, does SAP have any documentation or guidelines that assist in selecting the most suitable SAP Data Center to ensure network speed and minimize latency?

Does SAP offer any tools or documentation that help evaluate and measure network latency from Vietnam to SAP Data Centers located in Japan or Australia?

Thank you for your assistance with these questions, as it will greatly aid us in making an informed decision.

Best regards,

TP.

Hi TP,

For accurate recommendations, I suggest reaching out to your SAP technical or sales representative, who can provide direct links to SAP product solutions and data center selection resources. Here are some general considerations that may help guide your initial understanding:

Differentiate SaaS vs. Non-SaaS Solutions: SAP differentiates data center options for SaaS solutions (like SAP S/4HANA Cloud) and non-SaaS products, as they often operate in separate environments and tenant configurations. The specific solution (e.g., SAP SaaS or Business Technology Platform) will impact the data center options available.

SAP Cloud and Hyperscaler Options: Many SAP SaaS and BTP solutions are hosted on hyperscalers like AWS, Azure, and GCP. However, even when hosted on a hyperscaler, only certain regions are SAP-approved for particular solutions. For example, GCP might have multiple options, but only specific regions are certified for SAP applications, which could affect performance and latency.

Internal SAP Tools: During my time at SAP, internal tools were available to assess data center performance and network connectivity. Factors such as subscription model or specific bill of materials (BOM) may also influence data center choices and network latency.

For a preliminary understanding, you may explore SAP’s public resources like bellow for high-level insights on data center compliance, network readiness, and cloud service locations:

For measuring network latency to SAP Data Centers in Japan or Australia, the SAP NIPING tool is often recommended. NIPING helps measure latency and assess network performance between SAP systems and can be useful for fine-tuning network speed and identifying bottlenecks.
SAP Note 1100926 provides guidance on how to use NIPING for network performance measurement:

I highly recommend contacting your SAP representative for detailed guidance on approved data center regions and tailored latency evaluations.

Hope this helps,
