Taxonomy in general, newbe questions

Hello Community,

I have a bunch of maybe stupid newbe questions but I just want to understand how it works (@help.sap.com I read a couple of articles, but I still have some questions).

So here we go. First, is there an example of a taxonomy in an EP6.0, where I can see it's behavior in a working environment?

Using rooms with a couple of documents, are they included in the taxonomy?

In the case, the documents of any rooms are included, are there other room elements included in the taxonomy?

Thanks in advance for every hint. As I mentioned, I read some articles at help.sap.com. Maybe not the ones where those things are explained.

Regards,

lightlyconfused Frank

Hi Frank,

taxonomies can apply to any object that:

- is accessible as a KM "resource"

- is indexed in the index the taxonomy is tied to

- if room elements are e.g. "iView" or "page" than (see above two) it depends, if you are using a "PCD repository manager".

Even more confused now ) ?

Hi,

I think I see a glimmering light at the end of the tunnel...

Okay, thanks a lot for your answers, they helped me a lot.

Just another question. Where is the information shown if a document is indexed in a taxonomy? At the "details/index information" page of a document?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Frank,

Context Menu of your document you can see:

Details, View and then Index Information.

Also in:

System Administration-Monitoring-KM-Trex Monitor-Display Queue Entries- Choose your Index, and then you can see all documents indexed with theirs status.

Hi Patricio,

thanks for this hint. Till now I can only see one Index (index name: Room Extensions / service types: search /

status: OK). Am I right when I assume, that there is no taxonomy used? If there is a taxonomy, what information would be there?

Regards,

Frank

Frank,

In monitoring menu:

Taxonomies are contained in the index, you can not see your documents by taxonomy. One index can be many taxonomies but here you see all documents by index not by taxonomy.

But in Content Management-Explorer-Taxonomies you can see each one that you created along with classified documents.

Patricio.

Hi Frank,

You use taxonomies in order to classify your documents. To use taxonomies, you must create an index (Index Administration), then you have to assign it a data source (km folders that you want to classify). At last you create your taxonomies. Remember that there are two kind of taxonomies: Query Based and Example Based.

In this link you can find a good explanation:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/6c/5145b1d1de11d6b2cc00508b6b8b11/frameset.htm

The documents included in the taxonomies are pointed by the data source in your index.

Patricio.
