Ok people, fun problem here.

One of our clients this week had an instance where sap had neither background or dialog process's free.

Now I've been requested to figure out why this happened.

The system is 731, has an oracle database and runs on an AIX.

I do see in sm21,during the time they noticed this, over 40 Breakpoint reached messages.

Anyone who can help me figuring out what went wrong.

Hello John,

Is the monitoring from the transaction "/sdf/mon" active?

If yes, you can use it to see what was the status of the work processes during the time frame of the issue.

If such monitoring is not active, were screenshots from the transaction SM50 collected during the time of the issue?

If it was not possible collect SM50 screenshots, was this information captured using the dpmon tool?

I would say that the "work process table" information, collected in one of the locations mentioned above, would be the starting point of your analysis.

If it is not available, you could still take a look a the trace files (dev_disp and dev_wXX), but this might not reveal anything depending on what was happening with the affected instance.

Regards,

Isaías
