Hi Experts ,
I am using EP 2004s , I have created a web repository and activated a subscription service for that.
Unfirtunately I am not able to receive any subscription notification emais , I can receive the subscription email for the repositories created inside the portal.
As per my understanding from sap help , for a web repository we should receive subscription notification emails once crawler detects the changes .
I have schedule the crawler accordingly so that it can detect the changes .
Can anybody through some light on , on which basis crawler considers that this document has been modified ?
Any advice , points are assured .
Thanks & Regards,
Amit Kade

I don't think it's particularly helpful to point people to the system documentation; or is there something specific you think would help?
Hi Amit
I'm sorry, but I don't think you will be able to receive notification emails from a web repository unless its custom built. The KM framework needs to be notified (Send events should be possible with the repository manager in question, plus "Send events" setting on the repository manager should be activated) about the changes in order to be able to send notifications, and since you need to schedule a crawler for the indexed documents to be updated, the KM framework does not know about what changes are done on the web repository.
And I don't expect the notification service to be able to work with a scheduled crawler as I would expect some other process in the portal is taking care of creating the notification emails.
A totally different question would be what format the notification emails should be in - out of the box a web repository does not put any information into cm_created and cm_modified for instance.
Kind regards,
Martin Søgaard

Hi Martin ,
First of all thanks a lot for replying , as you have mentioned I won't be able to receive any notification email but ,
1. When we create a web repository manager we have a option to choose the repository services.
2. In the subscription repoditory event mapping configuration (System Admin -> System config -> Knowledge Management -> content management -> repository services -> subscription event mapping ) we can add this repository to one of the event mapping service .
3. Here we have the parameter 'link handling' which specifies Defines how subscriptions to links are handled.
After going through all these I thought subscription should work for the web repository.
Kindly correct me if I am wrong and please explain what do you mean by
'unless its custom built'.
If this is not a workable solution what else can be done ?
Thanks & Regards,
Amit Kade
Hi Amit
The following snippet is taken from the description of Subscription Event Mapping:
Subscription Event Mapping
A subscription event mapping maps events sent by a repository manager onto events that are meaningful with respect to subscriptions to resources...
As you can see, the Subscription Event Mapping handles events send by a repository manager, but since no events can be send from a Web Repository (as far as I know), you are actually not performing any mapping, and thus it does not work.
I was once told by SAP support that "Send events" does not work for a WebDAV repository, unless the changes/event was triggered from within the KM framework. Since a web repository isn't more closely integrated into the KM, my guess is that a web repository does not support "Send events" triggered from outside the portal either.
With "custom built" I mean that "Send events" (and thus notification emails) might work if you develop a custom web repository manager, that can handle a very good integration between a website and the portals KM.
Kind regards,
Martin
Hi Martin,
Thanks a lot for the explenation . Just one thing , if web repository doesn't support the "Send Events" , why do we have an option to select that when we create a web repository manager ?
Can you suggest me some good link where I can get some information on creating a custom web repository manager which can send events ?
Thanks a lot again !

"Send Events" instructs the KM framework to generate events for all changes that have been initiated through KM. If something causes the remote resource without the KM knowing, no event will be generated (how could it?).

You will need to develop your own implementation, and use that instead of the KM web repository manager.
