In selection formula>Records

Formula Worshop-Record Selection Formula Editor window pops up.

after writing the programmiing logic there, a window pops up asking for either

Using Saved Data from a particular time or Refresh Data.

i.e.

I selected a table (Equipment) from Database :

Type    LocationName

BTS     HRSNPGHS116

GGSN  HRSNPGNG045

MGW   HRSNPGNN065

RNC     HRSNPGNR066

SGSN  HRSNPGNR067

BTS     HRSNPGNR068

GGSN  HRSNPGOH081

BTS     HRSNPGOH083

--------------------------------------------------------

logic in Record Slection Formula Editor:

if {EQUIPMENT.Type}="GGSN"

then true

else false

it lists :

GGSN  HRSNPGNG045

GGSN  HRSNPGOH081

--------------------------------------------------------

if i change it to :

if {EQUIPMENT.Type}="BTS"

then true

else false

and using SAVED DATA FROM (TIME)

it lists :

BTS     HRSNPGHS116

BTS     HRSNPGNR068

BTS     HRSNPGOH083

-------------------------------------------------------

When do i need to use Refresh Data tab within the popup window?

Don't worry too much about it unless you have used any specific logic for 'saved data' selection.

Use 'Refresh Data' in general all the time as it gets the latest instance of the data irrespective of any changes at the report-level.

Also, these options are CR designer specific. They will hardly matter to a business user who would finally view this report via Infoview portal or any web app / third party tool.

Hi Farhan,

You can rewrite the Record Selection Formula as:

{EQUIPMENT.Type}="BTS"

...and this will return records for BTS; you really don't need an if-else loop.

When you refresh a report and have the 'Preview' window open, CR saves a snapshot of the records returned for the last refresh.

If you go ahead and change the Record Selection Formula, CR will ask you whether you wish to query the database for the records again or whether you wish to use the same records that were returned by CR sometime ago. If you know that the previous run returned 'all' the records you need then you can click 'Use saved data' as it saves a lot of time.

Hi Farhan,

As per my knowledge

if you select saved data option it will show the last executed data( Executed data for last parameter value).

If you select refersh data it will access the database again and give the latest data.
