step 2: Password

step 3:dump database <SID> to "File name.dmp"

step 4:go  ,enter

and for transactional backup,

step 1: isql -Usapsa -X -S<SID>

step 2: Password

step 3:dump tran <SID> to "File name.dmp"

step 4:go  ,enter

This database has the database option "truncate log on checkpoint" set on.  This allows ASE to delete log records that preceed the oldest open transaction every time the checkpoint process runs (about once a minute).  As the log records are just getting deleted, it isn't possible to dump them.

If you want to be able to take transaction log dumps you will need turn off this option

sp_dboption <your_database_name>, "trunc", false

go

Then, to take transaction log dumps, you need a full database dump as a starting point

dump database <your_database_name> to <dump device>

go

Now your dump tran command should work.

Dear Mr Patan

No, this is not correct.

You need to take one full database backup after disabling 'trunc log on chkpt' - then you can take transaction log dumps.

Please review the above mentioned notes for setting up a backup scheme for ASe in a SAP environment.

Dear Mr Tavaheer,
I dont see an image attached. Can yozu please paste the error as text into a message ? That makes it easier for all of us instead of having to open image files.

Generally - backup and restore have been discussed numerous times in theis forum, but have a look at these SAP notes:
