SAP Solution Manager Dual Stack Split - Keep DB & Same Host options

Hello SAP Community,

We just upgraded our SAP Solution Manager 7.1 to 7.2.
We are planning to perform the dual stack split.
I would like to use these 2 options : Keep DB and Same Host.

My questions :

1) Are there any constrainsts to use option Same Host to install the SCS and PAS of Java Stack on the source host ? I think SAP recommends to use this option because it will be easier to reconnect JAVA with ABAP stacks.

2) For the Java Stack, what are the additional filesystems, except /usr/sap/<SID> that need to be created on the source host ?

3) Regarding the ressources (CPU, RAM), I guess they need to be increased. We currently have 40Gb of RAM and 16 CPUs. By how much should we increase the memory/CPU of the server approximatively ?

Thank you for your advice and tips.

Hello

Of course you can have both Instances ABAP and (BI-)JAVA on the same host.

I'm using such a configuration on Azure on a VM. For the JAVA I would a least have 16GB RAM available and for the Database there are no considerations or differences between SolMan 7.1 or 7.2 as the "JAVA Instance" was already part of the DB content.

See also the Blog - SAP BW Installation for more Details of the configuration.

So, 40GB could be a bit short if HANA is in the game. AS said allow at least 16GB per Application Instance, this would lead "only" 8GB for the DB. So increasing the RAM to at least 64GB would be beneficial. Don't worry about the CPU, this is fairly enough for the complete SolMan Instance to start.

Best Regards Roland

Hello Roland, thanks a lot for your quick reply !
We have successfully performed the dual stack split with options Keep DB and Same Host.
Thanks for your recommandations regarding RAM and CPU.
