SAP GUI ALV width on 2K, 4K monitors

Hi experts,

I'm trying for several days to expand ALV width on monitors with 2K, 4K resolution. It started on Full HD, ALV is not stretched to the max. I'm not talking about Z*, Y* development. This issue is visible on standard SAP reports, for example SE16N.  ALV list is not using whole width. And on bigger screen resolution is it worse. On 2K ALV occupy only 2/3 of available width. SE16N is only top of the iceberg, this issues is in ABAP editor, Z* programs with ALV components, etc ...

I have read several issues in this community, but can't find answer. Changing theme and make font bigger is not solution for me, because I want to have more  information on screen, not less.

Using latest SAP GUI 8.00 32bit with PL 8. Tried NWBC 8.00 too.

Thanks for help.

2541592 - Display issues when using SAP GUI for Windows with high DPI settings has the following information on Hi DPI monitors,

General recommendations / information

  • Use a modern theme starting with Belize theme. These themes have much better high DPI capabilities built-in compared to older themes.
  • If you do not want to use one of the themes as of Belize, use at least Blue Crystal theme, because this theme comes with an icon font that displays all kinds of icons and symbols in a much better way with high DPI.
  • If you are facing issues apply the latest patch for your SAP GUI for Windows release. We keep fixing display issues in our patches. Therefore the latest patch will potentially solve issues you are facing.
  • With high DPI settings the default monospace font used by SAP GUI for Windows in older themes (Courier New) may look "thin". The same issue also happens in other applications with this font. If this confuses users you can change the SAP GUI font settings so that Courier New is used with style "bold" instead of "regular".

Multi monitor DPI awareness

SAP GUI for Windows 7.60 and older releases do not support multi monitor DPI awareness.
This can lead to the following effects:

  • SAP GUI may look blurry if multiple monitors with different DPI settings are used. This happens, because Windows applies scaling to SAP GUI in these cases.
  • If SAP GUI for Windows is embedded ("inplace") in a program that supports multi monitor DPI awareness (like SAP Business Client or Internet Explorer) the size of the UI elements in SAP GUI for Windows will be wrong (too small or too large). In case of the integration into Internet Explorer or Edge (in Internet Explorer mode) this also affects windows of the same SAP GUI process (saplogon.exe / saplgpad.exe) which are not embedded ("outplace"), such as the SAP Logon window or SAP GUI windows. Once SAP GUI has been started "inplace" these windows will stop reacting to dpi changes at all, which may also result in wrong window and UI element sizes. The only solution to these issues is using Multi-Monitor-Scaling in SAP GUI for Windows (supported as of SAP GUI for Windows 7.70 and requiring at least the Belize theme).”

More information regarding multi monitor DPI awareness in general can be found on the Microsoft page: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/desktop/api/shellscalingapi/ne-shellscalingapi-process_dpi_...

As of SAP GUI for Windows 7.70, SAP GUI supports multi monitor DPI awareness as an optional feature in modern SAP GUI themes. This solves the issues mentioned above.
See SAP Note 2985351 for more information.

Hi,

I think that I met all recommendation, this screenshots are from QHD single monitor.

Latest GUI

theme Belize

Standard ALV in SE16N. ALV is not using full screen width

see pixels width

Again I don't want to increase font size and see bigger text, I would like to use whole width to see more informations in tables or ALV reports.

It depends on the application, not the actual SAP GUI. There has to be backwards compatibilty to some extent. Some applications work better than others. Your best approach is to open a ticket for each affected application.
