SAP GUI 7.60 crash - maintaining longtexts (office integration)

Hi. We have just upgraded to SAP GUI 7.60 patch 5 and we are experience that the SAP GUI crash when users are maintaining longtexts (e.g. in IA05 or ME21N) using the MS word integration.

We have been in contact with SAP and they state that when users want to do these longtext maintenance, then they should close down MS Word before going in to the transaction.

For us, this is a 'workaround' as users often have to copy some text from a MS Word document in to the longtext. The recommendation from SAP is then, that they should copy the text in to notepad first.😜

Have anyone else experienced this problem and what solution are you using (if you have solved it)?

SAP is referring to SAP notes 159499(point 13) and SAP notes 176642 as why this is happening. Even though the notes are from 2002/2003 SAP claims they are still relevant.

Hi.. Just to give an update on this from our side.

We found out in our company the crashes of our SAPGUI was due to an error on a MS Word add-in.

We have a MS Word add-in our company from Templafy, there was an error that template, which made SAP GUI crash.

First we de-activated the add-in and could see that we could not get it to crash.

When we then contacted Templafy they were already aware of the issue and the fixed it last summer.

This issue is very annoying!

What error message do you get > GUI trace

• 1887367 - How to get an Office Integration trace - SAPGUI for Windows

We already had DOI issues, especially Word, in multiple contents.

1. Open serial letters from SAP > variables were not filled

2. Open Word document inplace (e.g. SE61 > some z-text)

» GUI crashes directly

» Error: SOFFICEINTEGRATION142

• 2457908 - Opening a .docx file returns "Error while loading document" - SAPGUI

We also had an incident, but even with SAPGUI error messages in GUI SAP couldn't (won't) help, most mentioned was "MS Office or Windows problem". Don't know why SAPGUI trace logs errors but no one could analyze them.

In a working SAPGUI + MS Office environment there is no problem to open Word (inplace/external) with already opened Word documents, or open multiple Word serial letters from SAPGUI.

GUI Crashes:

- uninstall and reinstall SAPGUI (solved some of our problems) (patch doesn't play any role)

- uninstall and reinstall SAPGUI + MS Office (solved the most of our problems)

GUI DOI Error messages (e.g. SOFFICEINTEGRATION142)

- uninstall and reinstall SAPGUI + MS Office + delete (renew) Windows User Profile (solved all our DOI problems)

Uninstall e.g. "nwsapsetup.exe /uninstall /all /nodlg"

The best way to test what component do you need to reinstall is to logon to Windows with a "new" (your) AD-account and try to reproduce the issue.

For SOFFICEINTEGRATION142 we couldn't find the wrong or missing registry key in the "main" user profile, so last way was/is renew Windows profile.

Best regards,

Tobias

Hi Tobias.

Thank you for your comment.

We have 10000+ SAP GUI installations (all with same SAP GUI version) in our company, so re-installing SAP GUI and re-installing MS Word is not an option. We are currently fighting with SAP to get a prober solution. We are also looking into if there is an option to 'replace' the MS word integration with another software that do not have the same limitations.

Hi Michael,

As written, it depends what kind of error message you get..

We have just about 5000, but not all of them are/were "infected". (Install/Uninstall/Reinstall are working automatically via scripts and GPOs during reboot)

Maybe you can pick one of them and try what could help.

I didn't get a proper solution from SAP, but we're needing a quick solution and that's how we "fixed" it, but yes it's just a workaround.

If you or SAP will find a solution I would appreciate if you would share your experience.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Tobias
