SAP Cloud ALM custom dashboards, and restricting filter values available based on assigned roles

Hello Team,

We have successfully configured the Integration & Exception monitoring in SAP Cloud ALM. Now we are able to view data for our systems (e.g. all the Iflows) in SAP Cloud ALM.

However, we have a requirement from Business team for creating a new Dashboard.

In the new dashboard, a User should view only restricted packages based on their assigned Business stream. The user should not be able to see packages in Integration & Exception Monitoring associated with other Business streams.

How do we create a new Dashboard in SAP Cloud ALM? How do we use roles to restrict the visibility of specific values in the data filters (e.g. show only specific package values to each user) as per the Business Team's requirement? We have explored many custom role options already, but we are unable to proceed further.

Thanks in advance!!
Regards

Currently SAP Cloud ALM cannot help you meet your business requirement.

  • SAP Cloud ALM currently does not offer functionality to create Custom dashboards.
  • The available apps are pre-built and cannot be customized deeply. They rely on the pre-built Role Collections, which do not provide the level of restrictions that you require.

However, there is an alternative option.

SAP Cloud ALM offers APIs so that Customers can extract data from their tenant and consume it using other software. For example, SAP Analytics Cloud can consume SAP Cloud ALM data via the SAP Cloud ALM API for Analytics. Users can build Custom dashboards there, and grant specific users the access to those dashboards. A dashboard can be created for each Business Stream. Users can be given access to only the dashboards relevant to their assigned Business Streams.

The example I outlined above uses SAP Analytics Cloud. But any external Business Analytics software or Dashboard builder can be used instead (e.g. Grafana, etc.). The core principles are the same, regardless of the external software used.

  1. Configure your external software to send requests to the SAP Cloud ALM APIs (specifically the Analytics API) to pull data from your SAP Cloud ALM tenant.
  2. Configure dashboards to display the desired data, filtering it based on Business Streams.
