One of our clients has decided to do a fresh installation of SAP BW 7.5 (Oracle). They currently use BW 7.01 and our BW team is considering ways to better approach the situation - they basically want to move what they already have in the 7.01 to the 7.5.
In any case, we'll have sort of a sidecar scenario at some point in the near future: an old system running BW 7.01 and a new one running BW 7.5. This is beyond our control and we're trying to figure out the best way to move from here.
So far, we're considering two alternative paths:
A. a system copy between different versions of the system, assuming there isn't an extreme compatibility issue we're not fully appreciating yet; OR
B. importing all the requests transported from the old development system into the new one and moving them up the chain to production, having to set up data transfers between production systems to keep the historical data before killing the old system.
Is our "plan A" technically possible in any way? Or should we take it off the table and go for our "plan B" instead - considering all the additional complexity involved?
Thank you all for your time. Any pointers would be immensely appreciated.
Your scenario sounds straight forward to me:
A: You do a system copy of the BW 7.01 system and then upgrade that copy to BW 7.5.
B: I would not recommend to transport between different SAP releases.
