Hi Experts,
I am new to Design Studio and recently installed the DesignStudio Release 1.3 SP1 client to my desktop. It is connected to SAP BO BI Platform.
I am facing issues in working with the tool as its response time is extremely slow. Creating a new Application and adding a data source itself is taking a response time of over 8 mins. When I select a BW query as data source with prompt, the prompt displayed in Design studio behaves strangely and does not give me proper options to proceed. Many time (as you can see in below screenshot) even after selecting the first input variable I am not getting any option to proceed ahead or select OK button. Many parts of the prompt screen turns grey (showing here as black).
Can someone help me out here and let me know why the client is not working properly? Am I missing with certain system requirement or pre-requisites?
Regards
Ani
first, this prompt dialog is showing that you have 3 mandatory variables (all w/o default values set in backend). I can see this as there is a star "*" sign in the variable description.
-> the "OK" button will be activated as soon all 3 are filled.
performance - if you connected to BW (in local mode) - adding of the data source is dependent of the performance of the ABAP stack AND your network. Is it possible that you (and the designer) is located in different location than the BW server (eg. Germany -> US)?

Thanks for replying Karol.
You are correct that the prompt dialog has 3 mandatory variable and that is why OK button is not getting highlighted. However in the prompt while passing the first variable, option to go to the next variable is not showing up .
Your guess is also correct that location of the BW server is in different country. Would that be the sole reason? Is there a way I can check to confirm this? I am also involved in creating WEBI reports connecting to same BW server and the performance is decent enough.
does the arrow work as shown below?
this is where you should click to get values for next variable
for the server - webi and design studio have different focus. Design Studio is server-centric software, so the Client (Designer) is for design only. There is a limitation on use of the designer in WAN environment - recommendation is to install on Citrix / WTS in the same area where the server is and use WTS connection fo rdaily work.
Ani - how much memory/RAM do you have?
Also could you apply SP02?
