SAC chart variance - "The time dimension does not have a valid hierarchy." error

Hi experts,

I'm trying to add a time-based variance to a bar chart, with no success.

Scenario:

I am using query from a live connection to BW on Hana.

In the chart I have one measure, "Amount" and a time dimension, "Posting date" with day as finest granularity. This dimension has several time hierarchies (I selected the standard hierarchy 0YEA_MON_DAY). This is a virtual hierarchy. SAC recognizes this dimension as a date dimension in the story, and the drills up and down the hierarchy work fine.

I can *usually* (see problem #3) add date range filters to the story, page or widget, or in restricted measures.

Problems:

#1. When I try to add a variance ("Add variance", Measure = Amount, "+ Add Version / Time", select Posting Date), I get the following error: "The time dimension does not have a valid hierarchy".

#2. You cannot add Posting date as Time dimension of the variance if it is not in the dimensions feed of the chart. The dropdown is then greyed out. Shouldn't it be possible to do that without the time dimension in the feeds? What if I want to compare two business units with month to month variance without having dedicated measures? Plus, I don't find it this feature very useful if the time dimension is already in the chart...

#3. Sometimes I get the error "ambiguous hierarchy" when trying to add a time range filter, like this

and sometimes I get this (thinking forever):

Already checked / achieved:

- There are limitations for these time-based variances, described here: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_ANALYTICS_CLOUD/00f68c2e08b941f081002fd3691d86a7/fda3a2bf3dc948f186c72...

However, none of the limitation described there seem to apply for me.

- ambiguous hierarchy: the S-Note 3484117 doesn't bring me anything, as the proposed solutions have to do with Query or characteristics options. I have different behaviors with the same queries.

- I could create restricted measures, restricted with time ranges, and create a variance based on them, without using the Version/Time option in the variance.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Stéphane

Hello @alberto_rosado, unfortunately no, the issue is not solved yet, so we have to go through workarounds. It's a pity it doesn't work as it should.

Thanks for your reply, I am afraid I will need to go through workaround too...
