Replacing(?) Unmanaged URL Reporting

Hello,

From a web application, we're calling up Crystal Reports using the Crystal ActiveX Viewer 10 via Object tags and VBScript from a ColdFusion template using ColdFusion variables to feed the engine the necessary parameters. This process has worked fine for several years, and it remains functional through Windows Vista and IE 7. However, we know Unmanaged URL Reporting is deprecated, and want to (a) better forecast the longevity/viability of this method of generating dynamic, data driven, parameter based reports on the fly, and (b) what products we would need to replace this functionality in the event the ActiveX Viewer 10 or the VBScript/Object tags that drive the application cease to work. The application is a secure data entry application that uses Crystal to generate reports on the data just entered. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Sincerely,

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

you are right.

Unmanaged URL reporting is deprecated and replaced by [opendocument|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_boj_erq/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233303337333033313331%7D.do].

Please find more useful documentation in our [forums|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-forum] and [here|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/advancedsearch?cat=sdn_ossnotes&query=opendocument&adv=true&note_number=&component=&sdn_updated_on_comparator=ge&sdn_updated_on=].

Hope this helps

Falk

Although Unmanaged URL Reporting is said to be deprecated, my recent investigation has revealed that it is still functional and supported in XIR2 and the new XI 3.0. From what I have been told it is going to be around for quite some time. I do believe there are some minor changes migrating from the older CE10 days in to the new XIR2 or XI 3.0. The recommended replacement is called opendoc url reporting. You can search for more info on both of these by clicking the link on this page for "Business Objects SDK Application Development Forums"

Unmanaged URL reporting - where you would have the rpt file deployed outside of the Enterprise repository - was deprecated and no longer available after Crystal Enterprise 10.

Managed URL reporting - where you publish reports to Enterprise, and Enterprise manages the report in the repository - is fully supported with all current versions of Enterprise.

Bot the OpenDocument URL commands (for Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, Desktop Intelligence, Xcelsius, static documents) and ViewRpt URL commands (for Crystal Reports) are fully supported.

The natural translation of Unmanaged URL reporting to Managed URL reporting would be the ViewRpt URL.

Thanks to each of you. From what I have read, "XI 3" is Crystal Reports Server 2008, correct?
