You should ask yourself : What level of skill do I already have regarding programming, possibly in ABAP, and regarding SAP-knowledge?
I find that programming in ABAP is somewhat Business-focused, rather than development in Non-SAP environments. I mean, it is very useful to have Business knowledge about a specific LoB (Line of Business) and you could make very good use of that in your Software Development.
But first things first : You need to get a handle on ABAP, and there are some nice Tutorials on (new) ABAP syntax and possibilities. See this Developer Tutorial link ...
There are some Blogposts in the SAP Community on how to set up a HANA / ABAP trial system. Please go through these and you can start learning.
