Recover database but don't have archive log file

Former Member

Dear Expert,

As part of recovery process, our restore went fine and also were able to

re-create controlfile. During recovery, it asked for Archive logs. We

checked with our Unix team for required archivelogs and found out they

don’t have required archive logs.

It was critical for us to recover database because of some project

deadline.

Please see the attachment for more details

Please help for solution

Regards,

Ajay Asawa

Dear All,

Thanks for reply but problem not resolved, may be most of r&d done on that server

Most imp thing is that when you preserve any system backup take it "offline database backup" or take online database backup with redo log backup.

Ajay

Hello

What happens when you open the database with resetlogs option ?

If the database says one of the datafile is inconsistent then you need to recover the database with additional logs.

If you are restoring the backup of another system (eg: PRD to QUA) and if the archived logs are missing then take a full backup of the source system and restore it and then apply the logs.

Hello RB,

We have restored backup in month of August for one of project and during that period we have no any archive logs. We have taken online database backup of PRD system and restoring on TEST system,

So without archive logs, is it possible to open database?

Ajay

Hello Ajay

Why don't you take a new backup of the PRD system and then restore it over to the test system and recover the database ? This will give you less trouble.

So without archive logs, is it possible to open database?

It is possible and there are ways to do it.

You can refer to these links

How to recover and open the database if the archive log required for recovery is missing. &laquo...

http://levicorp.com/2010/04/15/recover-the-database-without-archivelog/

I haven't done that so I cannot guarantee the consistency of the database after you open the database.

But if you are left with no other option then you can give it a shot.

Hello Ajay

If you want the data only for a specific period and also the backup from that time is not good with out the archived logs then the only option is to use SAP TDMS solution.

This is not a free solution.
