Protecting intellectual property

One of the problems in the past for 3rd parties wishing to develop complementary solutions for SAP has been that the (ABAP) source code is easily viewed and maniputable. I am unsure whether the same possibility exists with the J2EE design-time repository.

With SAP's push to offer NetWeaver as a technology platform aside from the business applications themselves, does anyone know if SAP are making moves to protect intellectual property?

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott,

So far we do not deliver source code to customers. Customers however strongly wish to be able to modify SAP´s Java applications, too, and there are developments underway to provide this - which will effect in having source code stored in Design Time Repositories at customer sites.

At the moment we are evaluating different techniques in order to protect java source code.

Hope that helps!
