Portal log set to debug severity ??

Hi,

I have made changes to the log severity at the root level in Visual Admini as below

Login to VA >> Go to Log configurator >> Runtime >> Location >> root >> Set the severity to debug and apply to all subtree then save the changes. I could see the severity changed when looked up through NWA but no debug messages are written to the defaulttrace log.

Have I missed any step or configuration to view the debug logs? I'm currently getting some error message I would like to get the debug enabled to capture more information on the error messages.

thanks

Praveen

Restarted portal but no luck.

SAP help and other wiki/blogs has never mentioned about restart if you change the log severity level. Any other suggestions ...

thanks

Hi Praveen.

Your server has to be in debug mode (Config tool > Instance > Server > Debug Tab > Enabled debug mode).

I have tried setting server at debug mode and restarted, but still no luck. From my understanding that we don't need to set the server at debug mode and no restarts are required to set the log severity to debug level. All I'm looking for is to set the log severity to debug level from ERROR to capture more information from few error that we are having.

I'm sure many would have done this in the past, could someone please share their thoughts on who to set the log severity level from ERROR to debug? Please provide as much detail as possible, because I have tried many attempts following some wiki and blogs.

Thanks

Praveen
