PDK - Java or .NET ?

HI,

Assuming I have both Java & .NET skills, what is the general opinion on which PDK I need to use to build portal SAP applications - the Java PDK or the .NET PDK?

Please take into consideration the following factors :

- Upgradability

- Availability of PDKs

- Ease of use of PDKs

- Deployment

- Support

- Trouble shooting and Debugging

- Development effort and re-usability

Thanks

Hi Fred,

As long as there isn't a very special reason to use .NET, there is no reason to use .NET within the Portal environment. The portal runtime - the WAS Java and it's servlet engine - are Java, so access to the core portal APIs happens within one runtime, within one JVM. Debugging for example is straight forward. Really deployable are PARs, which means Java. And so on.

The .NET PDK is an add-on, but Java is the portal's core technology.

Hope it helps
