Hi all,

I am using now windows server 2003 enterprose edition with MS SQL 2005, kernal 7.00 (SP -291) unicode. Now some HDD in our server is crashed and we want to install in new server.

My question is that whether our SAP can install in WINDOWS SRV 2008 R2/IA64 64BIT ?

Kindly help

Hi Praveen,

IA servers are costly so again check the PAM and go with the window server 2008 and MSSQL server 2008.

Hi Ashuthosh,

We have with us MS SQL 2005, not 2008. And also kernel 7.00 unicode(SP 291)

Hi Praveen,

Do you have the backup of mssql server 2005?

if yes , then you can build the new server using backup and restore method on mssql server 2008 as mssql server is backward compatible.

If you are building a new server and sap system from scratch , then you can go with the new version of mssql and os.

Hi Praveen,

MSSQL 2005 is not supported by SAP anymore so, using 2005 is not a choice here.

As Ashutosh said when you are installing SAP, why not use new/latest version?

Hi Ashuthosh,

I'll clearly explain my problem. We are using Blade server here. Last week one HDD got crashed. So we want to replace that. For that we want to replicate the same environment to another system. We have installed windows server 2008 R2 64 bit in a new system. Now we want to use SAP from the new system. For that i have to install db first. We are using MS SQL 2005 here. I want to install MS SQL 2005 in the new system. Management is also asking that whether MS SQL 2005 can be installed in windows server 2008 R2 with the Same SAP( 7.00 kernel with SPL 291) ??

Hi Prithviraj

We only have the CD of our current SAP ( 7.00 kernel, SPL 291). Also we don't have the CD of 2008 MS SQL. management is asking that whether MS SQL 2005 can be installed or not?

Hi Praveen,

You can install the sap system when your hardware is IA64 and MSSQL server 2005 is IA64.

Hi Praveen,

Indeed you can install MS SQL2005, my only worry was that this version is not support by SAP anymore.

But as you mentioned in the scenario above, please go ahead and install MSSQL 2005.

Though you will have to upgrade the DB in near future.

Hi Praveen.

On your target system you can install the Windows 2008 R2 with database MS Sql 2008 R2(Not on MS Sql 2005). You can download the MS Sql from SAP service market place.

Could share the existing system SAP Support package level?

hi Praveen,

As per the PAM screen-shot, the answer is Yes.

Make sure you use MS SQL 2008 IA64 version to install and not 2005 as it is out of support.

Hi Prithviraj,

We are using MS SQL 2005. Is this causes any problem?
