My company has multiple S/4 HANA on-premise SAP backends. We are using the SAP Business Client 8.00 PL10 to connect to the backend. We want to use the Quick Search Bar to search for transactions. The Business Client Documentation states that the search for transactions is built-in and automatically available:
To conduct a search using the Quick Launch bar, you can use different types of search providers. These providers can be built-in providers such as Windows Desktop Search or Transactions and Applications, search providers defined in the Role Maintenance (PFCG) transaction as well as search providers defined in the front end of the client
The same page also says that the availability of search providers depends on the connection type. Based on the table, when using a Fiori Launchpad connection, only "Desktop Search" and "External Search" providers are available. However, the "Transactions and Applications" search has always worked out-of-the-box without the need for any additional configuration. A different documentation page also mentions the "Transactions and Applications" search provider. It says:
Search Provider: Transactions and Applications
SAP Fiori Launchpad Connection -->
available/limited SAP GUI transaction tabs
This sounds like the search is also supposed to work with Fiori Launchpad connections. This matches our experiences. I dont know why the documentation states contrary things. I am connecting to the system S1 with a FIORI Launchpad connection, and I can see the two default search providers as well as my user-defined search providers:
Basically, everything works fine.
Now the problem: We upgraded one of our systems to the SAP 2023 FP1 release. When I connect to that system S2 with a Fiori Launchpad connection using the same Business Client version, I am missing the "Transactions and Applications" search provider. It is not automatically added to the available search providers as I used to on the older release:
When I use the NWBC connection to connect to S2, the "Transactions and Applications" search provider is shown among all the other default providers:
This proofs that the search is technically available and functioning - its simply not shown when using the Fiori Launchpad connection. Did the upgrade possibly change a configuration somewhere wich causes this behaviour? I would like to get the search back to working with FLP connections.
Request clarification before answering.
For some reason, the "Transactions and Applications" search just out of nowhere some days after the upgrade.
No cause (configuration change or something) apparent.
