Migration of BI Platform to new server (with newer OS)

Hello,

We're going to be getting new servers for the BOE environment. The new servers will be Windows 2016 (we're currently at 2012 R2). What are the options and best approaches to migrating to these new servers? Is there reference material/content specific to this work?

Thanks,

Mike Gaynor

I would suggest to have different CMS and Audit DB. If you need to point to CMS and Audit DB existing ones to the new server 2016, you need to cleanup the repositories of the previous server names etc. During this process , if there is a corruption, you will loose the existing repositories, unless you have backup.

Follow my blog.

Thanks. I'll review. I was hoping to keep the current CMS and auditing databases as well as file repositories. is that supported or do I need new databases and FRS?

you can keep current if they are on separate servers.

promote all the content using promotion management or PMW desktop tool on the server.
