Lock users while deploying content

Dear all,

We have a EP 6.0 SP18 installation for ESS/MSS and BW reporting. The user management is taken from an ECC 5.0 backend system. We want to deploy content and apply a series of transports in the portal, and we want to prevent users from connecting to it while this is taking place. We first thought of locking the users, but this will prevent users connecting to the ECC 5.0 backend directly via the sapgui (the ECC 5.0 system is used as a backend for the portal but also as an HR/FI/CO system)

Is there any other way we can prevent our users from connecting to the portal while at the same time keep their access in the backend?

Many thanks

Andreas

Hi

I pasted the wrong URL's for you in the earlier posts. Please ignore them and use the following URL. It will launch you the PCD tree and portal display. You can go to the the same path (Portal Content ...... Default Framework Page) and make it again visible.Your issue will be fixed for sure.

http://portal:port/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fadministrator!2fsuper_admin...

Thanks

Hi

The solution is :

Open the default framework page of your portal and make all the pages invisible except the "masthead" (the top image section). When you are done with your deployment and transports in portal , type the following URL:"<http:server:port>//>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fcom.sap.pct!2fevery_user!2fgeneral!2fcom.sap.portal.frameworkpage" and login with Administrator id. Again open the framework page and make all the pages visible. This is a simple and best solution. It Works !!

Hello Lakshmi

Thank you for your reply, I am not sure what you mean by "make all pages invisible". How can I do that? Also, when you say the default framework page, how can I access this? I prefer your solution rather than taking the portal down as I was planning to do transports from System Administration >Transport>Transport Packages --> Import, but I need to understand exactly how I can do it

Many thanks

Hi

Follow the below steps

Navigate to Content Administration --> Content Provided by SAP --> End User Content --> Default Framework Page. Right click and open. The last entry in the default framework page will be desktop inner page . Uncheck the checkbox "visible" against Desktop innerpage entry and save it. Thats all none of your users can see portal content. Once you are done with you deployment you need to make this visible again. So check the option visible for Desktop innerpage. To do this taks pl go the following URL

http://<server:port>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prteventname/HtmlbEvent/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fc...

Thanks

just take a down time of the portal instaance. If you using a web dispatcher even better...just take a downtime of the dispatcher.
