Linux: Installation BO XI 3.1 - network settings

I am installing BO XI 3.1 Edge on a Novell Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 just for testing purposes. When I start the installer it always quits at the point when probing the network settings. First I got a "The current hostname could not be resolved (STU00137)." error, now a STU00134 error.

I know that I have to adapt my /etc/hosts file, but I don't know how exactly... this is how the file currently looks like - obviously false for the BO installer:

# hosts This file describes a number of hostname-to-address
# mappings for the TCP/IP subsystem. It is mostly
# used at boot time, when no name servers are running.
# On small systems, this file can be used instead of a
#               "named" name server.
# Syntax:
# IP-Address  Full-Qualified-Hostname  Short-Hostname

#	localhost	linux-sles11test

# special IPv6 addresses
::1             localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback

fe00::0         ipv6-localnet

ff00::0         ipv6-mcastprefix
ff02::1         ipv6-allnodes
ff02::2         ipv6-allrouters
ff02::3         ipv6-allhosts

What's wrong in this file or: could I use YaSt to correct the settings?

Thanks a lot!

Can you send the output of the 'hostname' command as well as the ifconfig -a?

The install tests to make sure that the hostname and a reverse lookup on the primary IP address match. If you don't have proper name resolution configured on this box then the install will fail.

Try doing the following as well.

ping -a `hostname`

ping -a <IP Address returned by above>

Make sure they both resolve to the same name/IP.

Edit: I solved the problem by disabling DHCP (thus giving it a fixed IP adress and name servers)

Thanks for the update,

The problem I could see from your last (edited) reply, was that the hostname could not be pinged locally. This suggested a name resolution issue.

Sounds like you found a solution though.

I am experiencing the same problem when trying to install BO XI 3.1 on RHEL Linux on a Virtual Machine.

Getting this error:

The IP returned by ResolveHost was in form of 127.0.0.* (STU00134)

The /etc/hosts contains:

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail. localhost.localdomain localhost

Result of hostname command is:

then ping -a localhost.localdomain gives:

PING localhost.localdomain ( 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from localhost.localdomain ( icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.051 ms

and finally, ping -a returns:

PING ( 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.045 ms

Can you please advise what to check/fix so the installation can continue?

Thank you.
