Kerberos Authentication in BOBJ

Former Member

All of the SAP Java instances in our landscape are using kerberos authentication with the UME for the user data source (not AD). We are using the prefixbased authentication mode, so the kerberos ticket identifies the username from the client principal and looks for a matching ID in the UME.

In BOBJ we are currently using the SAP authentication mode with BI as the source of the user data. Can we integrate kerberos authentication to BOBJ and still use BI as the user datasource? Or are we forced to go to the full Active Directory synchronization for user data?

Business Objects can integrate with AD/kerberos but not unix or other non-AD/kerberos. It can as you no use SAP authentication. If you wish to refresh SAP data from BO and login to bBO with AD/kerberos instead of SAP then yuou will need to use SNC. SAP typically has 3rd party vendors that integrate SAP with SNC (i.e. cybersafe, quest, secude, etc) when using kerberos, and BOE can be setup to use the configuration as well. To note not all BO tools can use client SNC (designer and webi rich client cannot) and you would need to still login to those tools with SAP.
