Japanese Data is displayed as junk characters in CR11

Former Member

Hi,

We are upgrading reports from 8 to CR11. We are able to display Japanese data in CR 8. But while migrating the same report from CR8 To CR11 the Japanese data is shown as junk character. Static Japanese data are displayed as it is. But the data from sybase is displayed as a junk in CR11. If any one resolve this issue?

Try changing your font to Arial Unicode MS OR I use

MS Pゴシック which is the font that the application I am reporting off of uses.

When you say 'junk', what do you mean?

Are they empty boxes?

Are they question marks?

Are they random incorrect characters?

One change between 8 and XI (in version 9) is support for Unicode. The first thing to do is distinguish whether this is caused by (1) missing fonts, (2) incorrect character encoding, or (3) invalid character encoding translation.

If boxes, that means the character was identified, but the font glyph is missing (find and install fonts).

If question marks, that means the character encoding translation failed - it could not be mapped to Unicode.

If random incorrect characters, then that means that Crystal is interpreting the characters using one character encoding scheme, when it's in another scheme.

Your database - what encoding is it using when returning Japanese text?

Does the OS configured to translate the encoding?

Sincerely,

Could you please let me know how to check the charset encoding in Crystal reports XI

Code Page 850 I think is a Western European character encoding scheme.

So that suggests Crystal is correctly interpreting the stream as CP 850, and representing it as Western European characters.

What encoding scheme is the database using for Japanese?

Hi Sandhiya,

You can try installing the Supplemental Language support

To install:

1. Go to control panel

2. Open the Regional and Language Options

3. Go to language tab

4. Check both the check boxes for the Supplemental Language Support.

5. Click on the Apply button and it will ask for the Installation CD for the Operating System.

To set the language settings in the Internet Explorer

1. Open the Internet Explorer

2 Go to Toolsà Internet Options

3. On general Tab click the Languages button

4. Click on the Add button to add Japanese from the list of available list.

Check the issue after these settings.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sandhiya

Does the particular font type is present in the font folder(In Control Panel>Fonts).

Do you get junk character for specific character or with all the characters?

Have you saved the report in CR XI first?

What if you create a new report in CR XI using Japanese character do you get the desired output?

Please do let me know the outcome.

Asha.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I have saved the report in CR11. All the Japanese characters are displayed as actual content in CR8. But not in CR11.

Sandhiya, are both versions on the same machine? 8 and XI?

Did you try the method told by Asha?, did you try the method in the link I gave earlier?

What version of CR XI are you using? did you update it to the latest patch?

Perhaps you can show a screen shot of the junk and correct version to see what kind of junk characters are appearing? boxes, circles etc?
