Is Java in ASE totally not useable because of a bug in the installjava utility?

I wanted to experiment with Java in ASE (no extra license required for new versions of ASE)

But when I tried to install a .jar file (containing a Java class) into ASE using the installjava utility, I got the error:

The file '*.class' contained in the jar does not represent a valid Java class file.

According to SAP note 3075958, this is a known bug (CR 825178) with no fix currently scheduled in future releases.

Is there any other way to use Java in ASE without using the installjava utility?

Thanks in advance
Ben

Hi Ben,

yes this CR is still open and awaiting for fix.

I'm afraid I do not find any workaround yet though.

Best regards

Hi Ben,
I know it has worked in the past, but it has been many years since I've worked with Java in ASE.
To just do some experimentation, it might work to download an older version of ASE, perhaps even 15.7, and try using that for playing with the feature.
Unfortunately, I don't know when the bug was introduced.
