iuliana,

an infoprovider is a generic word that refers to 'storage areas', if you will, for querying in BW. objects such as ODS (operational data store - acts more or less like a regular table) and infocubes (specialised set of tables joining together infoobjects and keyfigures), among others.

an infoset actually falls underneath the infoprovider, only that it doesn't physically have data - but merely a logical linking together of data from various sources.

you could read up some more on infosets and infoproviders in the ff. links:

infoproviders-

infosets-

since you're new here, i would encourage you to keep asking questions that you would have. and whenever anyone responds, you could reward that person by assigning points to him (look under the name of the person replying).

that being said, i hope i helped you somewhat. 😃

well... the links should give you the difference already... but let's try to simplify them here:

and infoset is a specific type of infoprovider, and describes data sources usually defined as joins for ODS or infoobjects (characteristics with master data, like material number). and it does not in itself store data.

infoproviders is a more global term that encompasses the infoset, and includes all infocubes, ODS, or even infoobjects, for which queries can be made for via the business explorer.

so... technically speaking, there is no actual difference, save the fact that an infoset is a particular form of infoprovider.

i hope that helped - don't forget the points! 😃

Hi Iuliana !

For infoset look at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/084e3ce0f9fe3fe10000000a114084/content.htm

for multiprovider look at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/52/1ddc37a3f57a07e10000009b38f889/content.htm

Infosets are join operations, multiproviders are union operations...

Hope it helps!

Bye,

Roberto

InfoProviders are InfoCubes, ODS-objects, InfoObjects and MultiProvider.

InfoSets are used in BW to make data reportable, that was not stored in InfoProviders. They can be used, e. g., to make non-reportable ODS (BEx-Reporting deactivated) accessible for BEx-Queries.
