I am working on an IDES installation of SAP BW. I am following the SAP StepByStep Guide and have come across the following problems:
1) I am not able to activate an InfoCube that I created, it takes me to a Log File. However, I have created Info Areas and Catalogs
2) When I run the transaction code for BEx (rrmx) it gives me the message install Excel (although it opens Excel). How do I install the plugins?
Thanks
Hi Harpal,
It seems problem with your GUI, reinstall your GUI and check.
Secondly check all info objects in cube are active or not. If not activate all and try.

Ravi.

I have gone through the log files and it seems that when I try to activate the InfoCube, the process involves generating SQL which is suppose to generate databases.
I have created a new and copied an existing InfoCube and still get the same message.
Could their be an issue with the install and if so how to overcome.
Thanks
Hi Harpal,
You need to activate infoobjects that are in the cube. One of the ways to it:
RSA1 - right click on your cube - Display data model.
Expand the trees to see infoobjects. Activated objects must be green. If something is grey then open another session, find this infoobject, change - activate it. Do it for all grey objects. Then Activate the cube.
Best regards,
Eugene
Hi Eugene,
Thanks for that. I am not able to "Display data model" since this option is only available if the InfoCube has been activated.
For whatever reasons when I try to activate the InfoCube it just cannot create the underlying dim and fact tables. I have even tried to
1) Reactivate an existing InfoCube - No problems
2) Create a new InfoCube copied from the previous existing one which I reactivated - get the same problem is not able to create tables
Thanks
Hi Harpal,
You have not mentioned about whether your infoobjects are active or not, so I assuming that they are all active (with the green light).
You have also mentioned about some error messages about tables with alpha values. So what kind of alpha values? Numbers? Letters?
It is also possible that you do not have authorisations to copy or create a cube.
Hi Somnath,
What I actually get when I try to activate the InfoCube is a list of log files. When I analyse the relevant log file I notice that the file consists of SQL. I have noticed that in a number of places in the file where it is trying to create the dim and the fact tables it gives the message "Table /BIC/xHIA_BC2 must be created in the database", where x is either P, T, U, F or 1, 2, 3 (since I have created 3 dim tables myself and the usual Package, Time, Unit and Fact tables.
I think you may be onto something re the access level. However I had no problems reactivating an existing InfoCube which was already activated or the InfoObjects, InfoCatalogs so I am not sure if that is the case.
Thanks for your help on this
Hi Harpal,
I think there can be a authorization set wherein you can re-activate an existing cube but not be able to create or copy a new on.
Next time you get the error, goto transaction SU53. If there is a authorization problem, it will tell you what authorization value was checked and failed.
Hi Harpal,
Then enter the cube change screen. Look one by one at the name of all the infoobjects. In another session make a search of this IO. When found activate it if it is inactive. Do it with all IOs in the cube, i.e., with characteristics, time attributes and key figures. After that activate the cube.
Best regards,
Eugene
Somnath,
Will check tomorrow. Thanks for that and will confirm.

1. It must be taking you to a log file because there were some errors during activation. What errors are you getting?
2. Run the SAP GUI installation CD on your PC. Choose BEX as one of the components to be installed. This should install the SAP BEx front end in your PC. Remember that this has to be there is every PC in which you want to run reports.

Somnath,
The message that I get when I try to activate the InfoCube is that "Not all objects for infocube<infocube name> activated".
The log file is quite long (SQL Generation). However walking through the log file the following message seems to repeat itself "Table /BIC/xHIA_BC2 must be created in the database", where x is a number of different alpha values.
By the way thanks for the feedback. So far I have you on a six lets see if we can get it to 10!!!
Harpal,
Probably some of the infoobjects in your cube are not yet activated. Goto transaction RSA1 -> Modelling -> Infoobjects. In here, check if there is a green light againts all the infoobjects that you have in your cube (characteristics and keyfigures). If not, activate the infoobjects.
Also, I am assuming that you have assigned all the characteristics to dimensions in the infocube.
