Hi all,,
Can anyone say me how do i increase the field length of existing infoobject or infocube,, Say for example if i have product hierarchy which has 6 levels each level has a length of 3 and if i want to increase the length by 4 for all the levels of existing cube or infoobjects which has the data. wat should i do ,, wat are the steps that i ve to follow to achive this. Will it affect the upcoming data to the cube or infoobject,,
Ill assign points for it,,
Please reply
regards
dinesh
Hi dear,
the problem is not related to future data, but to the existing one!
You have to go to your IO definition in RSA1 and change the domain lenght...then your database needs to convert all the existing records...and, in this case, it-s possible that the system check WHERE this data is and ask for a deletion!
Hope it helps!
Bye,
Roberto

Dear,
try to do it in your development environment (the important thing is that you need to have some data in your providers that uses your relevant object)...go to RSA1, enter in change mode in your infoobject definition and change the lenght (you can find it in the first tab)...then try to activate...very probably the system will say that this activation is not possible since you have data related to this object in some providers...
Dinesh,
I think if you see roberto answer..changing is just
1) RSA1->Infoobject->Change-> Increse the length to what ever the extent. But While activating it will FORCE you to do some database related adjustments.
I remember it was giving the transaction code in the error/warn5ng msg.. Sometimes I am afraid that you may have to approach basis ppl also for this one. Also this may lead to delete all the cube and master datas also.. ( not sure )...
just wanted to share my experience and little thoughts over here.. if it is still in development system.. then you may go for it.. but if it was a change from productions system... you may have to think.. or wait for some more expert views..
regards,
Hari
Is it very hard to introduce a new infoobject and delete the existing infoobjects?
For increasing the length I am not very sure it will create a problem..
Hmm, But i think it can lead to database table adjustments also some times..

Hari
