Hello Experts,
When I import the job from Central to local with Objects and dependents, it takes almost 30 mins, any idea why it would take so long?
Thanks,
Nis
Hi Nis,
One of the things which has a detrimental effect on the Designer performance, specifically on moving data around between repositories, is network latency.
If your Designer is installed on a machine far away from the actual Data Services server then that might explain the delays. This is known issue and I believe SAP will not resolve this for the current platform. My understanding is that there is a complete new 'Designer' studio in the making, web based (?) and hopefully this deals with the problem.
I appreciate that this knowledge is not going to help you much.
So in the meanwhile I would advise to install Designer on a machine close to the Data Services server and then use VPN/Citrix/Remote Desktop when working remotely. That will probably be much quicker when checking in/out your objectes from central repository.
Good luck with it...

Hi,
How big is your local repo and central repo in terms db size?
What version of DS are you using?
How do you import jobs from central repo, what options do you select?
Can you ping the database server where the local and central repo reside? what is the returned network latency for this test
Thanks
Nawfal
How big is your local repo and central repo in terms db size?
Local Repo 5GB, Central-10GB, I have hardly 9 jobs in Central Repo, so I won't worry about.
I created new local repor and just tried to pull the job, it takes the same amount of time.
What version of DS are you using?
DS4.0 SP3
How do you import jobs from central repo, what options do you select?
Get the latest version Objects with dependents
Can you ping the database server where the local and central repo reside? what is the returned network latency for this test
Packets Sent =4, Recd =4, Lost -0 (0%loss)
Approx round trip times in milli-secs
Min =16ms, Max =21 ms, Avg =18ms.
I hope I answered all your questions.
Thanks,
Nis
Thanks Nis for the info.
The central repo seems very large for just 9 jobs! ok perhaps each job is big and complex.
You may want to try the following:
1-Open Designer go to Tools menu -> Options in the options windows select General under the Designer node and uncheck the option automatically calculate column mapping and test again.
2- For testing purposes you may want to create a new central repo db and see if this makes any difference in terms of speed.
regards
Nawfal
