IISAdmin service crash

We are on Windows 2003 server with IIS 6.0 and use ISAPI filter iis_sso.dll. We are running the IIS 6.0 in isolation mode 5.0.

At random times we get the following error message:

Connection_Abandoned_By_Inetinfo_Crash

At this point the IISAdmin service is terminated.

By restarting the IISAdmin service everything works fine again untill the next crash.

Does anybody has any idea how to solve this problem?

Are there any entries in the Event Viewer? What about Dr. Watson logs? Are you using TREX? I recall there being a bug in the TREX ISAPI which was corrected in SPS 13 patch 1.

hi Samuli,

yes there are entries in event viewer:

Event ID: 7031

Description:

The IIS Admin Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 7 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: No action.

We've found info about it on SAP(Note: 713568) and Microsoft(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899301/de) sites.

The problem is, that SAP and Microsoft recommends different things to do...and its not so funny to restart production server every 1 hour o check sth out..

No we do not have SPS13. Yes we are using TREX, but not on the machine, where the error arise. Could you provide sth more about that TREX bug?

Thanks for information,

Karol

The SAP note I was talking about is 845974 but I don't think it is relevant for you, maybe for Dave though.

Are there any entries before/after the IIS Admin Service terminated error? What about Dr. Watson logs? Start -> Run.. drwtsn32.exe and press on the Show Log button.

Hi Samuli,

well the log is pretty long... but at the beginning there is a message that says:

Application exception occurred:

App: inetinfo.exe (pid=636)

When: 25/08/2005 @ 11:04:49.766

Exception number: c00000fd (stack overflow)

any idea what is the problem?

You didn't tell what you were doing with your IIS. Are there any ISAPIs or Web Extensions installed that are not shipped by Microsoft? In case you are looking at a default installation either your hardware is faulty or then you are looking at a bug in IIS and you should contact Microsoft in order to fix the bug.
