The trailware is called 'IDES' and if you can get a copy of SAP latest version (ECC 5.0) you'll have R/3 and BW in one package. The IDES CD/DVD is usually send for free withing one week.
For the IDES system you'll get a 3 month licence that can be extended for free every 3 months.
SAP-internally a high integrated Demo and Training landscape on basis of IDES is available. Apart from the IDES R/3 system available for years there is also an IDES Workplace, IDES CRM, IDES APO, IDES BW, and IDES SEM system and the necessary WEB middleware (ITS, IPC, TREX, In-Q-My,..). Details about these components and the conditions of shipment can be found in Note 519697 for version 3 and higher (version 3 has been available since June 2002) and in Note 414305 for earlier versions.
General information:
IDES stands for 'Internet Demonstration and Evaluation System'.
IDES R/3 is a complete R/3 installation which contains the data of a model company in client 800.
The documentation for handling the demo examples is contained together with 4.6C on the standard documentation CD. See Note 133693.
The differences as compared to the standard installation are:
o as of June 2002, shipment is effected on DVDs only,
o an upgrade to a higher release level is only possible in exceptions approved by SAP (Note 164244),
o the IDES systems must not be used in production,
o in the current shipment, the required kernel is contained on DVD together with the DB export. For earlier maintenance levels, the required templates need to be copied or adjusted manually (see the IDES Installation Guide - in printed form - in the installation package or on DVD). With IDES-R/3 4.7 Enterprise, the installation is carried out again using the standard kernel CD. Special preparations regarding the templates are not required.
o database export includes, for example, two DVDs with Release 4.6C, three DVDs with Release 4.7.
o the database is larger and needs more disk space,
o Report load is not imported but generated in the customer system,
o IDES systems contain several languages (see Transaction SMLT).
In general the repository (reports, Dictionary, messages, screens ... ) is identical to the standard installation. However, it contains Support Packages and repairs of released notes which are installed during the test phase before delivery. Further packages can be imported into customer installations. Also refer to the installation notes corresponding to the individual IDES Release (see below).
The IDES components are available on different DB platforms (see the separate notes for details). With the current shipment (June 2002), MS-SQL, ORACLE, and SAPDB are always supported. With IDES-R/3, DB2-OS390 and DB2-UDB are supported in addition (subsequently) >> please do see Note 519697.
The delivery of IDES R/3 is free of charge for users with a corresponding license. For the complete component landscape, the mySAP.com license is required. For single orders, an R/3 or APO license is required for example.
IDES/Training system:
Besides client 800 the IDES/Training system contains in addition client 400 (originally a copy of client 800). The persons responsible for SAP training will maintain the IDES ata for the different application-specific SAP classes in a permanent process. Latest available release is the 4.6B IDES/Training system.
The IDES-TS system is available only in combination with the License for the Knowledge Warehouse (purchased separately) and the Training materials.
