How to resolve this npm ERR! Cannot read property 'pickAlgorithm' of null issue ?

I have cloned https://github.com/SAP-samples/cap-sflight into BAS and I am trying to build mta but I am getting this following error

Can I get any solution for this issue?

Try adding .npmrc file or try running this command npm config set registry https://registry.npmjs.org/. This worked for me

I too am having the same issue, after attempting all the proposed solutions. There is a closed issue regarding this on the npm github, apparently something similar was occurring over the summer of 2021. I commented on there regarding the issue in an attempt to get their attention to reopen it. Maybe it helps if you apply a .npmrc file in your project as I've described in: How to avoid changes in package-lock.json when using local and BAS development in parallel?
