How to get Plain Text Password of a User

Former Member

Hi All,

I intend to retrieve the password of a user in LDAP based on his user id and email id.

I have been able to locate the method getHashedPassword in the interface IUserAccount. Will this method return me the hashed password or the plain text password.

Is there a way by which I can get the plain text password of the user.

Plz reply.

Regards

Nikhil

Id be very surprised if this is possible. Usually authentication mechanisms allow you to compare a password with the stored credential but ONLY tell you whether they match.

It would be a bit of bad form if anyone could extract the password dont you think?

In any case, Im not aware you can extract the password here.

Hi Haydn,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I know it may be almost impossible to get the plain text password. I just wanted to check if at all this is possible.

Actually, I want to implement "Forgot Password" in Portal. The requirement is such to mail the old password of the user on the basis of user id and mail id. As of now, the standard functionality is that a new password is generated and mailed to the user. Just wanted to check if this can be customized.

Plz let me know if you have some inputs.
