How to connect as root to a SAP CAL instance in Google Cloud via serial console

Hello everyone,

our SAP CAL instance running on SuSE in Google Cloud has an issue of not booting properly. So I'd like to connect as root via the serial console. Unfortunately, the only user I can use to log in now is s4hadm which does not have root access. Also, the root user has a password which has not been set by me. How can I regain root access? I already tried various startup scripts which do not have any effect either.

Is there maybe a default root password set during the installation of a SAP CAL instance?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Dear Customer,

To connect on OS level, please follow this FAQ Page -> How to connect to a running appliance via the secure shell protocol (SSH)? question.

In case that you have encrypted your pem file (selected the checkbox in green), then you should use this password to log on as root, in addition, the Master Password (the password, defined during appliance creation) should be used.

Hello Tsvetinka, in my post I had already stated that I cannot log in to the instance using SSH as the instance is not booting properly. The only way to connect to it is via Google Cloud's serial console where I can only log in as s4hadm. Thus, I need a root password to switch to root or to be able to use sudo. I have already tried, it is not the master password and the .pem file was not encrypted.
